No, no. Don't worry. What I did notice today and even yesterday was a remarkable uptick in ridiculously barefaced scammy spammers.
But surely a spammer is a spammer I hear you merrily cry as if you were one of my merry band and I, a man in colourful tights with my foot astride a log in a forest clearing. (To all US citizens, tights = pantyhose. Incidentally, pantyhose? That's a strange strange word.)
So what particular event got me all pontificate'y on this subject?
There I am, in the aftermath of a blizzard, sledging in the snow with the little lady. She is squealing with delight and tearing down the slopes. I get my phone out to take some amazing footage of her haring down at breakneck speed.
As I am fiddling with the camera. A notification pops up from Discord.

I then put my phone into airplane mode and enjoyed the rest of the sledging.
By the time I had gotten home and engaged my full on chillax I had three seperate chats flashing away. I answered SpamFarmer1.
Me: Right fannybaws. How can I help you?
SpamFarmer1: I want to know how to make my posts better, can you look at one?
Me: No thank you. I do not judge peoples posts because quality is subjective and inevitably it is not an honest critique that people want. Instead, they want to know how to make as much money as they can for no fucking effort whatsoever.
Despite me saying no, SpamFarmer sends shitpost link. I look at it. Its three lines of text with a photo of what looks like a potato shaped like a vagina that has exploded. Apparently, it's a meatball.
Me: I said no, however as you ignored that. Your post is shit. You need to put more effort into them.
SpamFarmer1: OK, thank you. Can you upvote it please?
Me: FUCK OFF.
SpamFarmer1: OK, sorry. Can you give me 1 SBD
Me: What? Are you for real? Why? Why would I give random chat beggars SBD?

I blocked him. That's not begging? What the feck is then? I was rather surprised though. No-one has ever just asked for SBD from me before. Is this a new thing?
Well, apparently it is. Twice more today I have been messaged by random people asking straight up for cash. Of course, they engaged in a bit of chit chat before asking me outright for the SBD. The last one hilariously told me that...

I replied suavely that if they wanted new clothes they could wear a fucking sack.
Is this the done thing now? Is anyone else getting random chats asking straight out for cash? Or has word gotten out (wrongly) that I am a soft touch?

It has been unreal in Steemit.chat. Sometimes when I go over there I have 50+ messages from Spam Farmers! Unbelievable. We don't even have to go to CoinMarketCap to check the price of Steem. We know when we get slammed with SPAM!
And guys, I've seen comments like "Please upvote my comment".
Taking this to the next level, i.e., comment level.
That is when I put this video from @happymoneyman below their comment.

I get so many inboxes every day, I literally sigh and roll my eyes every time I receive one. And unless they say hi my name is SpamFamer1, and I would like to cordially try to be your friend, I just totally ignore them
I think they see the high SP, and automatically think, hhmmm, let me ask them for money, not realising how much work goes into getting to a high SP.
Funny little anecdote :)
It took me one month and around 350 comments to earn around about 10 steem. It was a lot of hardwork. Sometimes i felt why don't i just buy them from bloctrades, then i realised it is more fun seeing drops fill a bucket. Requires patience but it is worth it.
Begging can earn up for time being but it is not healthy to build followers and grow a steady income.

I just witnessed the lowest of the low spammers. I won't mention names to protect the innocent, but a person's friend died quite suddenly and she made a post about it to share her feelings and donate the proceeds to the person's favourite charity.
The spammer says Very nic ,I liked it very much!
Second spammer says writing is always challenging i like writing i appricate to you thanks for sharing

Oh man, I know exactly who and what post you mean. I am off to do some flagging. Shameful, shameful.
I don't imagine this to be a persistent problem if the number of new users declines.
Putting effort into a post or comment that actually contributes to and develops ideas will earn you a lot more per hour than spamming every possible post and annoying dolphins/whales, it will probably take some new users a while to realize that.
The spam farmers who don't change will hopefully notice that they're putting hours of work in to make a couple of pennies and start begging elsewhere - it's up to us as a community to make sure spamfarmers don't succeed.
Quality over quantity.
That's what I hope. I hope it becomes quickly apparent that this 'strategy' is far less effective than actually putting a bit of effort in.
Just hopefully it's not actually working well for them!
