Apps for Language Learners
So you've decided to learn a language, but you don't know have much time on your hands. What are you to do? Luckily there are plenty of applications out there on the OS and Android for you to enjoy learning languages in as easy as 5 minutes a day. If there's anything more important in language learning it's consistency. Meaning that language learning is a habit best done daily, even on the days you're tired and exhausted and in no mood to learn. Therefore to help you in your quest to learn your targeted language, I've compiled a list of fantastic, fun, and free applications for you to try out!
Level : Beginner
Everyone knows this one. Its synonymous with language learning, yet despite its widespread fame many don't ever take a glance at it. One of the many pros is that you can learn over 20 languages, some as obscure as Klingon and Dothraki! This course if completed, will certainly leave you at a competent beginner level, or lower intermediate. It is also a fantastic supplement to any student, or textbook learning. Give it a try!
Level : Beginner
Memrise is not as well known, but that doesn't retract from how successful it is. With over 25 languages to choose from, you can start your journey learning from this application as well. You are taught vocabulary words, review them, and then see them in phrases. There are also wonderful videos of native speakers which is an added bonus to help in your listening comprehension. I highly suggest you try it, you can't go wrong with this one.
Level : Intermediate
Not well known yet, as it only has 5 languages to choose from, but it's a fantastic tool for those who already have a grasp of a language, and are looking to improve their understanding of it. It's a fill in the blank form of application where you see words in their context, in their native sentences. It will help you understand how the language constructs their sentences and get you speaking like one!
Level : Intermediate
This is a fantastic followup course to Duolingo, in fact the creator intended it to be as such. The app is called Clozemaster, and its like Lingvist in that you are filling in the blank using multiple choice. It's great for those who are already intermediate in the language, and struggling to construct those native like sentences. It will push your grammar and vocabulary to the max. If you're looking for a challenge or have plateaued, then this is the app for you.
Level : Beginner - Intermediate
This app is wonderful to listen to stories, read new articles or simply study languages. You'll hear how words are pronounced, and you'll begin to find the spoken flow of a language. It's a useful app for all levels.

Languages don't have to be difficult! Just spend a couple minutes a day and you'll enjoy what it's like to speak another language, adopt another way of looking at life, and become part of the growing cultural phenomenon that is us.
