Don't Compare Yourself to Others

in #life7 years ago

Have you ever envied someone else's success? Do you sometimes wish you had another person's life?

Most of people fall into the ever-alluring yet emotionally-dangerous trap of comparing themselves to others. According to social comparison theory, they do this in an attempt to make accurate evaluations of themselves . But at what cost? While comparison can be an important wellspring of inspiration, growth and development, it can also turn us into a tail-pursuing with no self-confidence.
Here is some of the most important reasons why You Should Stop Comparing Yourself to Others:

  1. Others’ so-called "perfection" is an illusion:
"Comparison is the thief of joy" Theodore roosevelt. A friend may proudly announce the publication of his graduation, but conceal how many times failed the exam before graduation. We may envy the smiling suntanned family we see on a tropical vacation, although we’re not privy to the fact that the 30 seconds of smiling came after three hours of quarreling and sniping. If we knew others’ whole truths, we might not feel so inadequate when comparing ourselves to their carefully crafted public images of "perfection."

  2. Life isn’t fair:
"Why compare yourself whit others? No one in the entire world can do a better job of being you than you" Unknown.
Can you imagine how insane life would be if it actually was ‘fair’ to everyone? Wouldn't that be boring? I will let you imaging.

  3. Damaging sense of self:
Mark Twain said that “comparison is the death of joy,” and the science agrees. Research has found that comparing breeds feelings of envy, low-self confidence, and depression, as well as compromises our ability to trust others.

Finally, comparing yourself to others is a losing battle, because in this life you will never reach a point where you are better than others in every way and why would you want to be. Next time focus on learning from the talents of others and be the very best version of yourself.

Totally agree with you, and it's even more true with social media.
One of my photography tutor says : Don't compare your backstage with others' frontstages.

Peoples only share their successes.
