Private Golf Course PhotoblogsteemCreated with Sketch.

Good day, fellow Steemians! Since joining Steemit several days ago, I’ve been digging around my photos, trying to get them organized and get an idea of what I have to work with. I happened to come across a stash of old photos from the four years I worked at a private golf course as an assistant ornamentalist, just prior to (and somewhat overlapping with) the job I currently have at the estate.

Working at the golf course meant getting up really early. The moon was still in the sky when we started work.

We’d meet in the shop first thing, touch base with our supervisors, then everyone would start moving the mowers

And the carts

out to the lot, where we would gather our equipment, load up

And head out to work for the day.

In the spring and fall we changed out all of our planting beds with plants appropriate for the time of year. This is one of the planter boxes close to the clubhouse planted with our typical summer plants. Plants include Lantana camara (Lantana), Tradescantia pallida ‘Purpurea’ (Purple Heart), and some type of purple Colocasia/Alocasia (Elephant Ears).

After removing all of the prior season’s plants, compost was added to the beds and tilled in before replanting.

Another major part of my job duties was doing pruning. We had a ton of Ilex aquifolium (Holly) around the grounds that had to be pruned back into a rounded shape at least once per year.

There were also two of these spiraled evergreen trees that we pruned each year. As you can probably tell, they really hadn’t been maintained properly for years.

There was a ton of mulching to be done.

And of course, weeds were everywhere!

It was a lot of hard work, with a few injuries along the way. Like this burn on my arm from a weedeater, OUCH!

But at the end of the day it was all worth it.

We even managed to find time to have some fun along the way.

I found this beautiful specimen just lying on the ground one morning just waiting for someone to come along and claim it.

Nice visual story of your time working there! lol at buckethead. Reminds me when younger and friend worked at golf course and you could wedge the engine governor open and go really fast :)

lol I actually came really close to flipping one of the Turf II Carryalls screwing off one time lol Goosed the gas pulling a U turn and had it up on two wheels briefly lol The faster carts like the gators were almost like driving go karts around the course lol
