Remembering Ariel................
It is a new day so it is not like yesterday. However, I am sitting in the same place looking at the same photo - just like yesterday. I like this photo. I get lost in the photo, thinking of the elephant - a symbol of strength, resilience but also compassion - but my mind wanders.
Yesterday, one of my best friends buried her beloved mother. I am more than 7000 kilometres away so I could only be there for her in spirit - that is all. She found solace in my words but I know it is never easy to say goodbye to a loved one.
Now I sit here again - thinking of her mom, Ariel, the way I remember her - when I was young. She was a strong, charming lady who exuded grace, beauty and elegance. She was a devout christian who lived by the principles which she extolled. She was an exemplary pastor's wife. Ariel had a loving aura and a warm smile - everyone felt comfortable in her presence.
I recall many mornings getting a lift to my far away high school. Ariel at the steering wheel. The car was full already but she said there was room for one more - me. Visiting my best friend was like being at home. Ariel was a teacher and a brilliant mathematician, she passed on her gift to all her erudite children. However, I knew her as a guidance counsellor at a high school and teachers college. Her listening ear extended to her church community and all around her. Everyone knew her words would be well meaning and full of wisdom. She mentored and blessed many lives and was a "mother" to many.
Ariel - a true role model - who received love and respect as she lived by example. I will always remember her deeds and kindness. She had a long and fulfilling life. She will be remembered with love by many including myself. It is not very often that one meets persons of her caliber.
Time and distance does not change fond memories.
Rest in peace - dear ❤️ Ariel. ❤️
