Decision-making is an essential skill , How master it?

in #lifelast month

Managers must make decisions to lead because their choices can make or break them.

Fortunately, decision-making is an art that can be learned regardless of status.

Here are some practical development tips.

Knowing your natural decision-making style is the first step in skill improvement.

A psychometric test can reveal whether someone makes decisions quickly or slowly, wants to analyse in detail or improvise quickly, or prefers change and novelty or what is familiar and known.

This choice will be influenced by:

Does this person naturally encourage team success or well-being? Will it favour risk over security?

Will they avoid decisions that demand strenuously defending their position?

Does the person tend to be practical, optimistic, or ask many questions before making a decision?

Under pressure, we make different choices. Therefore, it is crucial to detect if something affects work stress to evaluate if it skews the statistics.

In conclusion, personality substantially affects decision-making, and to acquire this talent, you must grasp an individual's inherent reactions.

Time typically determines the best technique while making a decision.

Not everyone views time and urgency the same way. Some see emergencies everywhere, others don't. Personality and experience affect time and urgency perception.

To grasp your time perception and build your skills, you must know yourself well (see my first point)!

Despite their appeal, choices that are unrelated to the goal should be rejected.

Knowing our instincts is crucial. For instance, if a person always thinks new is better, they should be conscious of this to prevent repeating the same decision-making model and making the same mistakes that could deviate from the goal.

There are two general decision-making methods:

Those who decide after meeting criteria.
Those who want to make the best decision and take longer to decide.
There's too much information and not enough! The quest to make the greatest choice can be unending and confusing, yet time is money and energy.

Lesson: Even if the decision is imperfect, it met your requirements. Once your conditions are met, decide and go on to the next file.

Research indicates that intuitive decisions are often the most effective, particularly in emergencies or areas of expertise.

Natural intuition is hard to understand and describe. Our inherent responses and experience are our intuition, in my opinion. Attention to instinct is crucial!

Knowing when to follow instinct is key to decision-making. In unfamiliar situations, we must learn not to follow expert intuition that comes fast to allow strategic intuition to emerge.

A leader's capacity to quickly switch to plan B following a disastrous judgement is his strength. You must still have a backup plan and evaluate it during decision-making.

Make errors and learn from them. Take responsibility and recover promptly with your plan B.

A plan B is automatic for organised people, but it takes more effort for impulsive people. It may seem like rambling, but get to know yourself and your coworkers.

Decision-making mastery is developing. Knowing where to start is key to developing it. An individual's personality, natural talents, and experience are the keys.
