Kalaashi People: a unique culture & people

in #life7 years ago

The Kalaashi people residing in Bombarit, rambor & birir valley in Chitral District of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. They speak the Kalasha language, different from chitrali language. They have unique culture & norm, that’s why they are considered unique among the peoples of Pakistan. They are also considered to be Pakistan's smallest ethnoreligious community, practising a religion which some scholars believe & characterise as ancient Hinduism.

People at the adjacent district Nuristan (historically known as Kafiristan) Afghanistans province once practised the same faith adhered to by the Kalashi residents / kalaashi people. By the late 19th century, most of Nuristan converted to Islam, although some evidence has shown the people of nuristan continued to practice their customs & norms as kalaashi people do in Kalaash.

During our visit to Kalaash valley bombrait on their seasonal festival we have visited all their places & leaned a lot about their way of living & culture. On our visit to their graveyard we saw remains of their dead ancestors in wooden boxes.
