Learning hands on

in #life6 years ago

Ever since I could remember, I always learned things the hard way.

When I was 5 my parents told me not to play with the edge of a box cutter because I could cut my self, fascinated on how it worked, I played around with it, cut a few rags here and there, cut a few notches in the table, and looking at the blade I noticed how the edge was shinier than the rest of the blade, so without any second thought I gently swiped my finger across the blade, after wards I felt a pain on my finger followed by blood slowly dripping down, From that point on I knew better than to play with sharp edges.

When I was 7 I saw a commercial about not playing with sockets, of course with my experience from the box cutter I knew better than to play with sockets, but the commercial didn't say anything about extension chords. I always thought that those thing were safe, since you could flick a switch and no more electricity would flow through, with a wet finger I tried to switch of the extension cable, but I mistakenly placed my finger on the socket instead, and to my surprise I was electrocuted, luckily it wasn't serious, but after getting shocked my hairs on my arm were all raised for a few minutes.

Even now that i'm older, I can still say that I learn better with hands on experience, I didn't learn how to cook just by watching TV and reading recipes, I learned from actually applying what I first know and then turned it into experience.

Have you guys experienced anything similar?
