CHOOSE YOUR VANITY

in #life4 years ago

I was having a conversation the other day with a friend and he spoke about finding love. He happens to be very wealthy. If i had half of what he has i probably would have no worries in the world but there we were talking about love. He has something i do not--a lot of money; i have something he doesn't--love, which he can obviously buy, you know but there are certain levels of insecurity that comes with having a lot of money and being surrounded by people with price-tags on their forehead. This goes to show the insatiable nature of the nature soul and why my primary goal in life is to find happiness. It is a very objective thing to pursue. I know happiness is fleeting so i have to constantly pursue it. Unlike searching for purpose or fulfilment where you get stuck in the idea that your life being about just one thing. Personally, i think my life can be about anything as well as i am happy and sleep well at night.

When i was younger i desperately sorted love. I thought it would be that thing that completes me--romantic love. As i grow older i discovered that there are more important things than passion and sex. In fact, relationships these days are more economical than they are emotional. i think the romance i share with my girlfriend will continue to flourish as long as our economic needs are met. It doesn't form the basis of our relationship as most people have made it to be these days. She is certainly not with me because of money because i don't have enough to spare. She is an independent woman that can take care of herself, and as long as my financial burdens are not placed on her shoulders our love will continue to flourish and at some point, we both will join forces to provide a better life for ourselves. It doesn't have to be social media worthy. It is just a life we both appreciate, which is something the media takes from us these days. The whole point is: life isn't just about one thing.

My major purpose in life currently is making such my family is okay. Hopefully, i am able to achieve this in a couple of years. After that there is actually nothing else i am looking forward other than to satisfy my curiosity about the world through my creativity and enjoying the good time i have with the people i genuinely care about. I don't plan on changing the world. I don't think that's my destiny. There are people destined to do great things and there are people destined to do simple things. The problem is most people don't like simple things. They lives ought to be grand--so they think.

I have been watching the peaky blinders certainly--a must watch i must say-- which centres around the life of Thomas Shelby. One of the major lesson learnt is that money is just a means to an end and if you must chase money you should understand your endgame. For some, it is freedom, of others it is respect. Everyone doesn't want to be rich for the same reason.

In conclusion, i think it is important we know our place in life and accept it. You can aspire for more but there is no fulfilment in that or anything. Fulfilment is one of the many myths about life. Many of you reading this might have accomplished many of your long term goals but you're not happy about anything. A story popped up on twitter the other day about a lady who works late into the night almost every day and a sizable amount of time in traffic. To her it's justifiable because she hopes someday those struggles will end (but at what cost?). People have been sold different narratives of what it means to be successful and they end up slaving for the means and forging the end.
