HOW TO END A GREAT AND FUN BIKE RIDE, IN A BAD WAY...

in #life7 years ago

So today I went for my first 'Difficult' cycle, we were planning on cycling for about 3 hours and knowing myself... I just had to find a way to cut the ride short.

So I run Tubeless tyres on my bicycle and there are alot of great Advantages of having tubeless, but also very bad Disadvantages... One Disadvantage of which I had discoved today. We were about 11km into the ride and My tyre was flat, we thought that it was probably just all the pressure and rocks that had caused this, so we pumped up the tyre and carried on, about 2km after that, it was flat again, this is when we knew something was Wrong, but we hadn't known what yet. Every 300m after that I had to stop a and pump up my tyre, eventually I had just had enough of it and sped away from the group to get to the clubhouse as fast as possible.

When I stopped at the clubhouse I started to inspect my wheel, expecting there to be somesort of a puncture, yet I couldn't find one, so I searched some more, and more, and eventually I had found the problem, I dented my rim, HOW?? you may ask, I don't know XD XD XD.

So that is obviously one of the disadvantages of having tubeless, damaged rims allow air to escape from the tyres...

One more thing, remember:
NEVER GIVE UP!!!!

This is one of the bizarre side effects of running tubeless, your tyre survives impacts so well the failure point moves to the rim. I'd advise carrying a tube with you anyway because you can still put one inside if you do get a problem.

I agree with @roarz, you should always be prepared and have a backup in case you do ever hit that failure point! But now you know and you can't be expected to know everything and be ready before hand. In the future just throw together an emergency back pack with these kind of things and ideally some food and water to last a day or two.

I rode my bike to the shops today and before I went out I said "Do I really need innertubes to go to the supermarket? this wastes space in my bag" Got a flat...

Luckily I didn't take them out because it's always better than walking home.

I had a spare tube but then I gave it to my friend just minutes before XD. Ill bring 2 next time XD

Now that is something I haven't thought about. I just recently got tubeless tires and man I love them! But I always carry one extra tube just in case!

Tubeless is worth it for what it offers, the disadvantages tend not to happen alot so thats also a bonus... But let me say, when the disadvantages do happen, it suckes not to have a tube with you XD
