I will still need the grid for Steemit.
As you may know I am designing a Tiny Offgrid Log Cabin for family of 4 to build on Lake Superior or some other spring fed lake and writing here on Steemit about this process.
This has been a long slow journey as we search for a small piece of property. We practice living off the grid each summer in a very small 1 room cabin on family land in Northern Ontario.
The Winter's here can be brutal so we are taking that into account in our planning. Would it make more sense to build some place where there is no winter? Vancouver? Turks and Caicos? After watching the increasingly powerful Hurricanes these past few weeks I think that the Carribean and even Florida and Texas are off the list of Potential destinations.
Maybe Costa Rica? I will post all my research here as I continue working on our plan. One thing I have come to realize is that indeed we will need a few last tethers to the grid... access to fuel and wifi.
After a summer of experimenting with wifi hotspot options I will share what I have learned about this one essential link to the grid. It is not cheap.
Indeed we will need this wifi Hub so that we can post to Steemit, check the weather, and do other research via an Internet Connection. The other Option is to drive into town each day and log in via Starbucks or Tim Hortons Free wifi.
What are your suggestions for remote living wifi internet access?

I am of the opinion that if you want to live off the grid, then do so and forget about modern conveniences. To live in nature as a part of nature is something we all seem to forget and demolish with our have it now quick and easy lifestyle.
You don't need to check the weather except by doing anything other than stepping outside and having a look around at your surroundings.
The internet exists as merely entertainment and has little to offer in anything recognized as knowledge. There is nothing out there you can't learn from trial and error or conversation with a neighbor.
So if you want to live off the grid, then forget about all these trivial matters and concerns which have no real basis in reality. Just accept things as they come and always make it out on the other side. It makes little difference if there is a hurricane or not. It is the adventure that counts.
You are probably right. There is always the Farmer's almanac for weather forecasts. Do we really need the Internet or Steemit ?
My point is that you don't even need an almanac. Do you think those people who live in Alaska or somewhere more remote care for such things? Even 60 years ago (or less) they never had "need" of anything like an almanac, the weather stations, a radio, a television or anything of the sort.
To say that anyone needs the internet would be absurd.
That is true. Nobody needs the internet or Steemit.
I think you can do both! I think offgrid.net the newsletter might help you find people who know how to do it- I have friends living off grid in the san luis valley, colorado who have internet.
