Importance of having a positive approach in life
"Can your self-judgments prevent you from achieving your dreams?" read one of our latest app notifications.
We were shocked by the response and the number of shares. It was on tweeter and other social medias. Most importantly, he stopped and paused. How do my honest judgments affect my life?
In previous articles we have read about the causes of stress and anxiety, including its basic foundation. Why do we suffer stress and anxiety? The anxiety connected with forward-looking thinking is caused by the dread that "the future will not be as I envisioned." The concept that these events do not occur brings us great anxiety and despair. A single thought occupies our minds: 'What if such a horrific circumstance occurs!'
Imagine yourself in this situation. You started imagining the future, which caused worry and anxiety. Worst of all, Maybe you've been mulling over this and other worst-case scenarios for days. You've created unreal universes. These are only a few of our minds' tricks. Unrealistic expectations, and the resulting anxiety...
Yes, humanity has reached this point by considering both positive and negative alternatives and taking action. Our minds, on the other hand, are inefficient probabilists. An interesting study investigates how our beliefs influence the outcome of complex challenges and options. So it goes:
Assume a centimetre-thick napkin. The napkin's thickness increases to 2 cm when folded, 4 cm when folded again, and so on. How many times do we have to fold this napkin to reach the Moon's height? Consider your initial idea and post it at the end of this post.
So, how should we live if our minds constantly mislead us? What role does optimism play in this scenario? Ghandi says:
Believers shape their thoughts, which shape words, which shape behaviours, which shape habits, values, and destiny.
When we think negatively, we start taking action to avoid unfavourable outcomes. So we behave, speak, and move in ways that obscure the overall picture. We are worried because our fears prevent us from taking action. We are enslaved by the fear of "what if" and while we do not want to be plagued with dread, we find ourselves anticipating the worse. Let us recollect a Dalai Lama remark:
'Success is built on optimistic thinking.' Negative thinking can prevent you from completing simple activities.'
Positive thinking gives us hope. When we act with hope for the future, we become brave and imaginative. We radiate pleasant energy to others and ourselves. As a result of seeing the glass half full, we are better equipped to assess the chances that come our way and create a more favourable course for ourselves. Positive thinking attracts good fortune, whereas negative thinking attracts misfortune. Our ideas determine our actions, which shape our fate.
So think positive ideas and retain a positive mindset. Positive thinking will pull you out of any difficulty.
