This is a photo of an ash cloud coming out of a volcano. The volcano is in southern Chile. Before this recent eruption, the last one was in 1972. A massive plume of smoke was ejected by this last eruption and it is falling over the surrounding cities.
Calbuco is a stratovolcano and is known for its extreme eruptions. Other volcanos that are considered stratovolcanos are Mt. St. Helens, Krakatoa and Vesuvius.
