CRITICAL PATH WELDING

in #life8 years ago (edited)

Sometimes we are unaware of the ticking time bombs that are just down the street.

These ticking time bombs can lead to mass casaulity incidents.

It could be nuclear power plants, compressor stations, or this instance petrochemical refeniries.

Petrochemical installments have opearting pressures of hundreds to thousands of psi and operating temperaturs upwards of 1300f or more.

Critcal pressure lines include h2s, benzene, hydrogen, fuel gas, and many other chemicals.

If major lines were to fail due to weld failure, piping fatigue, process failures and many other issues, kill zones can be as as big as major cities.

Thus extreme engieering, quality control, and craftsmenship are used to mitigate process hazards and incidents so we can all live happily, unaware of the ticking bombs.

Today I show you the fabrication and welding involved in such a line.

The alloys used 321 stainless, 600 series inconel, and 9chrome. All welded together in a magic melody that creates the perfect weld for the safest process piping.

Fabricating and welding these exotic alloys come with their own hazards. Such as hexavalent chrome exposure, which leads to cancer later in life. This is one of the many hazards

These critical path welds are also very stressfull to make. One bad x ray and you loose your job, and on to the next one. Tolerances for inclusions can be less then 1/64", sometimes you are given chicken shit and client wants a chicken salad. Because of this welders often loose their job. No matter how skilled, and how many years your have been welding, or how many good welds you have made for the client!

Hope yall enjoy, and remember the blue collar.
