Harold Macmillan

Maurice Harold Macmillan, 1st Earl of Stockton OM was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
Long regarded as a rebel and backbencher, he was promoted to Minister for the Western Mediterranean during the Second World War. He later held several important posts as a leading cabinet member.
His posts included Foreign Minister, Chancellor of the Exchequer and Minister of Defence. Towards the end of his office he was involved in several scandals, such as the "Profumo affair".
In addition to his political career, he worked for decades for the family publishing house Macmillan Publishers as a publisher and author of several political and economic non-fiction books.

Nachdem er lange als rebellisch und Hinterbänkler galt, avancierte er während des Zweiten Weltkrieges zum Minister für den westlichen Mittelmeerraum. Später bekleidete er als führendes Kabinettsmitglied mehrere wichtige Ämter.
Unter anderem als Außenminister, Schatzkanzler und Verteidigungsminister. Gegen Ende seines Amtes war er in einige Skandale, wie die „Profumo- Affäre“, verwickelt.
Neben der politischen Karriere arbeitete er jahrzehntelang im familieneigenen Verlag Macmillan Publishers als Verleger und Autor mehrerer politischer und wirtschaftspolitischer Sachbücher.
