Robber Fly or Assassin Fly

A very skilled and fearsome predator of nature is the Robber Fly, which is also sometimes known as the 'assassin fly'. In the picture, we see this fly hunting another insect (possibly a bee). These flies usually sit on a high place and wait for their prey and quickly jump when the prey flies in front of them. Robber flies have strong legs and a spiny body, with which they hold their prey tightly. They have a hard mouth or 'proboscis', with which they inject a poisonous neurotoxin into the body of their prey. This poison instantly paralyzes the prey and melts its insides, which the fly then drinks. They are often called 'cannibal flies' or 'bee killers' because they do not hesitate to hunt bees, dragonflies and even flies of their own species.
