Why was marijuana illegal?
1st January 2018 - Recreational marijuana is going to be legal in California. More and more states are making it legal in 2018 vote. Canada has committed to make it legal soon. But as a community it is interesting to understand the history of marijuana and why it was made illegal?
There is no good reason for marijuana to be illegal and alcohol to be legal. Alcohol has many more negative effects as compared to marijuana. Alcohol related crimes are more common and I have never heard of a real marijuana related crime. It actually makes you calm and happy and less prone to commit a crime.
Here is a nice video on the same topic
There are multiple theories why it was illegal. There is another theory about alcohol industry lobbying against marijuana as it was mostly an import in early 20th century and local alcohol players did not want to have a competition for recreational drinking.
Finally, as the society is turning around and accepting marijuana, I hope people enjoy with responsibility. I am personally invested in some marijuana stocks and looking forward to how the industry matures.
Tge only reason they are going thru with this because they know the money is going to be coming in. Its the gold rush but in 2018. Though i will personally stay under the medical law. Tax free plus i would hope medical would be stronger then rec. But either way i feel in general the quality will drop as it takes over cali
There are some good companies working on expanding capacity for higher quality stuff. Canada legislation will be really critical as they have some good areas and climate for higher quality production
