Fate And Free Will

in #life7 years ago (edited)

This song has always hit me hard as someone who puts a great amount of attention to purpose and fate. How much of who we are is in our hands? We certainly answer for it, or thrive by our merits. How much of that is decided?

The Killers - Human - Live with Orchestra & Choir

I preach prophecy. I'm not a prophet, I read scripture and see it plain as daylight in the world's news. This mess in Syria and Israel is an easy example, but one of too many to count. How does prophecy reconcile with free will, if we accept that both exist?

We are tested. A test is a dull formality if the results are already known. I've often thought that certain inevitable tests are nothing more than a rude kick in the crotch if I've set my resolve beforehand. Is there more to it? It's not exactly satisfying, but consider each test to also be training for the next. Stand firm once, and you'll do it again. Adapt once, and you'll adapt again. Practice in both definitions of the word at once.

Don't be confused, this is not meant to seem glum, just real, a necessary stepping stone of thought to reach the necessary conclusion. See, it stands to reason that prophecy is not so much a prediction as a declaration of intent by God, or a description of one phase in a chain of causes and effects which are closely tended by powers capable of directing them. Many of the things in the book of Revelation are telling of natural processes, such as the absurd weather and increasing earthquakes we've been monitoring since Lord RayEl began his ride of conquest in 2011.

When he said he'd darken the sun or rain fire from the sky, and the world recorded these things happening, he was not "predicting the future." He was declaring intent, which of course resulted in appropriate action.

So back to the tug-of-war between Free Will and Fate, are we even looking at this correctly? As the song suggests, this is a dance, but we dancers are human, not machine. That means we experience our dance, rather than simply articulate it. We face the result inevitably because we play an active role in the composition of this symphony of our existence.

Free Will and Fate do not clash, but rather they harmonize. That doesn't mean I've got this dance mastered or even comprehended, but if I put on a good enough show the audience will grasp what I hope to express.

The Killers are my number 1 band!

I like your perspective. Although, I am extremely clumsy, so dancing isn't my forte, but thankfully, the more I practice the easier and better it gets. Such is life and the tests we are given, just keep pushing forward, learn from the mistakes, follow and obey Christ, and love God and each other.

I believe in Destiny and I believe that someone can change it due to their own free will. Fate is something that is far above us and is manipulated by God.

A lot to sit and ponder

Good teaching to share brother <3

it's a nice subject also , if I may ask wat do you believe in fate and free will ?

I believe in both. I believe they are not mutually exclusive concepts, and that we have a say in how we respond.

nice answer ;)
