Imagination is hard work

in #life8 years ago

You hear people talk about imagination like it's something that someone "has" or not.

That kid has too much imagination!!

An annoyed mother might yell or maybe no imagination referring to a dull person. But often, it's referred to make-believe scenarios borderline on impossible. That's a part of it but not the part I'm talking about.

Many people tell me I'm thinking too much, I'm too paranoid and I think of scenarios that are downright impossible. I am not so sure.
If anything, the scenarios in my head are possible in the sense that they could happen. Sure, most won't but the exercise of imagination is to see what would you do IF this or that. And try to be prepared.
It's actually rather hard. For one, imagining this and that and then this and that creates infinite ramifications that get more and more compex to hold in your mind. After all, is a parallel reality.
Secondly, the emotional part is very hard to take in account but is very important. How would you feel IF this.

As the great philosopher - Mike Tyson- said:

Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth

Well what I'm saying is that there should be a plan for this possibility as well!! You see?
But despite pain- which is notoriously hard to imagine though we are all very familiar with - how would getting punched in my mouth make me feel and how would I react inside? If I know this, I can create a realistic scenario and be prepared.
If I think that I'll just brush my mouth and say something bad ass...well, that's the first kind of imagination: impossibilities :D

The point is that imagining all kind of scenarios could prepare you and me for various unexpected shit. Maybe it is a depressing exercise but studies seem to suggest that people feel better afterwards.
As with anything, keep trying and you'll get better.
And never let anyone tell you you have no imagination :D

Don't give a shit about people and just do yourself. You do you.
Creativity and imagination grow with practice (and drugs) and obviously you practiced a lot ;)
