Da Vinci Could Write With One Hand And Draw With The Other!
What is it about Leonardo Da Vinci that still captures our attention in the age of the internet?
He was a creative genius in a time where life was arguably pretty boring. He is known for his art as much as his invention. He was obsessed with perspective and perfection.
Some have inferred from Leonardo's writing that he was left handed. This was the case of course - but he was right handed when he wanted to be as well.
Ambidextrous
Being Ambidextrous means having proficiency in both hands. Many people are born with levels of ambidexterity - and some level of it can be gained through various activities. The type Leonardo had could not have been cultivated through discipline as I imagine the genius would have done - he hit the genetic lottery. One percent of ambidextrous people can write with both hands at the same time - many in two languages at the same time.
In the age of the internet im not sure how useful Da Vinci's freak-show ambidexterity would be - but i'd like to see him do it.
Is there any evidence of his being able to do this?
We have first hand evidence in the form of his journals. He not only wrote lefthand - but wrote in "mirror writing" (backwards) while drawing with his right. His contemporaries left records observing his ambidexterity and ability to write backwards and draw with different hands and at the same time. https://www.mos.org/leonardo/activities/mirror-writing https://www.amazon.com/How-Think-Like-Leonardo-Vinci/dp/0440508274/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1516553036&sr=8-1&keywords=how+to+think+like+leonardo+da+vinci+by+michael+gelb
