Elon Musk Just Won A $50 Million Bet For Building The World's Largest Battery

Tesla founder Musk makes more talk recently by missed timetables for e-cars than anything else. I´ve been reading his biography since a few days and all these "bad " news do not bother me because I know he is a genius and up to create something very big. 

Musk made positive headlines when he won a bet about the world´s largest battery. The world's largest battery, with a capacity of 100 megawatts, is about to undergo initial testing in Australia therefore Musk has won a bet against Australian billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes - according to Business Insider. 

In March, Musk and Cannon-Brookes had agreed via Twitter that Tesla must build the facility within 100 days of signing the contract. If that does not succeed, Tesla would pay everything out of pocket said Musk clearly. The bet was preceded by the announcement of Tesla's battery chief and Musks cousin Lyndon Rive to be able to build such a fast battery due to the rising production rate of the new Gigafactory in Nevada. 

The contract was signed at the end of September and Tesla had time to deliver it by 1 December. But in the coming days, the test operation of the mega-battery - consisting of the Tesla Powerpacks - start, as the Prime Minister of the State of South Australia, Jay Weatherilla, announced. Musk had mentioned that it would have cost him "about $ 50 million or more" if he had lost the bet. 

Electricity for up to 30,000 households

But why does time play such a big role in the project? South Australia was in a hurry to ensure the supply of energy, especially during the summer, following a series of blackouts last year that triggered a national energy security debate. The cause of the blackouts is usually the massive use of air conditioning during the hot summer days....

The gigantic Tesla battery is part of a $ 550 million project to secure power in the state. Fully charged, the battery should be able to provide power for 8,000 households over 24 hours - or for up to 30,000 households for up to an hour, such as during a power outage. The battery park is powered by wind turbines. 

Weatherill - "It sends the clearest message that South Australia will be a leader in renewable energy with battery storage," he said. "An enormous amount of work has gone into delivering this project in such a short time, and I look forward to visiting Jamestown next week to personally thank those who have worked on this project."

Musk is truly changing the word and working on some insane projects. He has also a pretty jaw-dropping view on Bitcoin. 

“I think Bitcoin is probably a good thing. I think it’s primarily going to be a means of doing illegal transactions…But that’s not necessarily entirely bad. You know, some things maybe shouldn’t be illegal,” Mr. Musk, who said he did not own Bitcoin at the time, elaborates.

He also said, “It will be useful for legal and illegal transactions. Otherwise, it would have no value as a use for illegal transactions. Because you have to have a legal to illegal bridge.”
