SteemDance - Improvisation by @sirwinchester

in #life8 years ago

Dancers work and they work and they work, and they master their skills so far that improvisation just comes flowing out of them. Their natural expression of the best they can possibly be comes out of them because there is no boundary to hold them back... That's the mentality that I'm trying to create, recreate and hold on to forever. - Pete Carroll

We have been traveling a lot but never forgot to follow our passion which is dancing. No matter where we are, there is always room and time to move our bodies and listen to music. Who do I mean by we ? Some of you may guessed it right. @sirwinchester @mrs.steemit and myself! We are dancing together since we know each other and when it comes to dancing  we have a bond which can´t be explained. Sirwinchester is our dance teacher since over 7 years but he is always improving his skills and it gets tricker to recreate his moves every time but Mrs.Steemit and I strive to follow him as good as possible.

Some dancers grow up with choreography and some with freestyle. Both things are very important but not always given. Mrs.Steemit and I luckily were trained both styles and grew up as choreographers who can freestyle as well.

Whats the difference?

Choreography

A choreography is simply a combination of steps that are given from a teacher. It should match the music perfectly and is almost unchangeable. You repeat these moves over and over again until it becomes a routine and your body moves to the song automatically.

Freestyle

Some people might say doing a freestyle is much harder than following given steps but this is just a question of how much confidence you have. A freestyle lets you do anything you want until you are hitting the beats right. There are no given steps, a helping hand or you choosing the song. There are a DJ, an empty floor and you! The trickiest part might be to get into the "zone". I am still struggling with that because you really need to fade out everything around you and focus 100% on yourself. Sometimes you don´t even know the song but there is still so much to do since YOU decide which steps are coming next.

Sir Winchester is still giving up to 4 classes in a week although he is very busy working on great things. Mrs.Steemit and I join him almost at every class because we got to learn new things whenever we dance with him together. He is a great teacher and even as a viewer you can learn a lot. Last week he decided to do a specific task after he showed a pretty tough choreography. The task is called "IMPROVISATION". Let me explain it a little bit...

Improvisation

This task needs at least 2 people. We decided to do it with 3. @sirwinchester @mrs.steemit and @soldier .

There is always one person who starts to freestyle in an easy way so the others have the chance to follow these steps as fast as possible. This is actually so tricky because everybody has a different style and as I said above, @sirwinchester gets better every day and this makes it almost impossible to catch his moves at the same time he shows them.

We haven´t done this task in a long time and I was wondered when I saw the video because we were pretty much on point at the beginning. If you see this, please be aware that we had literally NO IDEA what @sirwinchester is going to show us and we tried our best to imitate him.

This is an improvisation of everyone! Sir Winchester was freestyling and Mrs.Steemit and I tried to follow his steps in a tremendous short amount of time.

- This shows how it turned out -

This was pretty tough since we couldn´t see a thing when he turned around because we turned around too and there was no mirror behind us. We struggled a little bit at the end but it´s a great exercise for freestyling, get to know other styles and learn as fast as possible!

Thanks for reading

Stay focused

professional dancers!

Cool video but need more work hehehe. Regards soldier

some great moves u got there

i guess freestyles are more complex

Nice

Damn I wish I had skills like that , keep following your dreams !!

aha, you girls did a pretty good job following from my point of view.

Pretty much nailed all the moves & managed to infuse your own respective styles and emotion into the movements. It wasn't just straight up copy cat, more like a game you three were playing...and enjoying from what I could see from the smirks ;)

Improv is among the best forms of self and artistic expression bc you can often get to these points where it's just the real you. What a feeling when that gets sustained, and in combination with your friends or fellow collaborators... yea

It's among my favourite things to do in the studio, get an opportunity to have an improvised session with dancers & if I'm lucky other musicians!

I used to participate in an event run by a company called RAD (Random Acts of Dance). They'd hope on the subway or go to various public places and just spontaneously dance up a storm and then dip lol. It was super fun and people really seemed to appreciate it, especially on the subway.

I believe in and live by the philosophy of freestyle. I once used to detest choreography but I now see it's value. That is, when a sequence is so well engineered and so in tune with the beat. It is immensely more powerful in repetition than it is in individual expression.

I have great belief in that which you are presenting here and that which you and the team are brewing, as part of Appics. Keep it up and I wish you immense success with the platform. Artists aren't properly rewarded in the existing platforms.

There is ability for discovery but there is no reward for all that fall below the mark. That is the discouraging part. As all which partake do have value as they are contributing to the evolution of dance and more broadly, the expression of sound through the physical form.

It turned out awesome! Wish I had moves like that :)

wow, Amazing; and the freestyle ....... speechless
