Presence of people is the most important thing

in #life4 years ago

Where I live, the power goes out very often. The same goes for water. So every time this happens, my boyfriend and I laugh that we should be thankful that both are not stopped at the same time. 😄

But that's not what my post is about today.

Have you noticed what happens when the power goes out? Especially when you live in a small and not very noisy place (not like the one I show you in the pictures).

Suddenly there is an extraordinary silence there. Everything falls silent. All noises made by people are gone. The refrigerator stops humming, the air conditioner, the computers, the water heater, the lights... Outside in the yard, the usual noises are suspended - the neighbor stops working in his home workshop, the irrigation systems of the other house next door stop, so do the electric lawn mowers. You can only hear the chirping of the birds, the barking of the dogs in the courtyards of the houses, the singing of the crickets.

Yet, even someone like me who likes silence and solitude, in recent years I have come to appreciate and have a greater tolerance for the noises around me because these noises indicate the presence of people. And people, as they will be, need each other, and when they start to die one after another - it is one of the saddest things that happens on this earth.

On the street in the village where I grew up in my grandparents' house, for example, there are almost no people anymore. 7 of the surrounding houses are depopulated because the old people who lived in them died. Fortunately, a more or less young neighbor returned after many years of living in Germany and added some spark of life to the whole street.

And this is very important to me, although I don't live there, because my parents are getting old, sometimes they leave my aunt alone in the house, and you know, a woman can't take care of a house by herself. And there should always be someone who can help at a moment's notice if something happens, if there is an emergency.

But back to the place where I am living now, I have long since put up with the unpleasant noises, with the constant scraping and cutting in the neighbor's workshop, the daily rattling, without holidays and weekends. Or the constant weekend parties at the other house next door. The music and the shouts.

I'd rather listen to them than listen to silence.

Because the presence of any sounds, even unpleasant ones, indicates the presence of people, and presence of people is the most important thing.

And that's something I never expected to say.

steem.jpgSoul's Detour is a project started by me years ago when I had a blog about historical and not so popular tourist destinations in Eastern Belgium, West Germany and Luxembourg. Nowadays, this blog no longer exists, but I'm still here - passionate about architecture, art and mysteries and eager to share my discoveries and point of view with you.

Personally, I am a sensitive soul with a strong sense of justice.
Traveling and photography are my greatest passions.
Sounds trivial to you?
No, it's not trivial. Because I still love to travel to not so famous destinations.🗺️
Of course, the current situation does not allow me to do this, but I still find a way to satisfy my hunger for knowledge, new places, beauty and art.
Sometimes you can find the most amazing things even in the backyard of your house.😊🧐🧭|
