Two Friends
She walks alone. Her feet absorb the cool, rough sensation of walking in the freshly cut grass. A young girl, wrapped inside her own thoughts, admires the trees, sky, and brightening moon. Away from the chaotic and raucous noise of the house she just escaped, she relishes the peaceful sounds of the harmonious symphony of nature. She lifts her eyes to Heaven and whispers a prayer of gratitude to her Creator, knowing that all pleasant things come from Him.
A door opens, and a tall young boy walks through the door. He has been searching for her, and she has been hiding. She acknowledges him with a smile and he joins her in her amble. The two friends walk side by side, content to converse of anything and willing to talk of everything. They walk a little ways down the paved concrete, and they talk of many things.
In a moment of serene silence, she turns to look at him with eyes of perfect contentment. He smiles back--nothing has to be said. No words are needed. They slip back into grass and promenade around the trees and bushes. Each is silent; each is thankful. Each cherishes the moment; each relishes every second. The girl turns, and the young boy wraps his arms around her. They relax in each other's embrace and give thanks for every precious minute they receive together.
Friends and not lovers are they. They mock the immaturity and foolishness of young lovers. They have no wish to become lovers. They simply content themselves with the beauty of a God-given friendship. They hold each other, unwilling and afraid to let go. They comfort themselves in each other and in a Greater Love. They give all to Him and know that every moment belongs to Him. Each inwardly thanks God for each other.
Two friends walk side by side, one with his arm around the other. Two friends share in silent joy. Two friends share one journey. Both know they journey to the same Destination. Two friends walk side by side. They know full well that one day things will change, so for the present, they are grateful to share their stage of the journey together. Two friends face each other with full of genuine love and care. They smile with contentment. Two friends walk side by side. They know and love the truth of an ancient saying: A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for difficult times.
