Symptoms That Indicate Multiple Personality Disorder
Mental disorders can be as scary as physical disease. That becomes more evident with the fact that you’ve probably watched a movie at some point in life which narrates how a person can suffer from Dissociative Identity Disorder, a neurological condition that is also called as a multiple personality disorder. It’s not hard to imagine what it does to the patient, and how it can be extremely dangerous in some cases. While the idea of living the lives of two completely different people within your body could be exciting, it is much more a condition to be worried about.

To some extent, we have this disorder below a noticeable level. However, when this disorder is unfortunately enhanced in some people due to known and unknown causations, that’s when the trouble really begins. If we think, we will probably notice how we all demonstrate different personalities depending on the type of people we meet, the occasions, the nature of work in hands and other reasons such as daydreaming. We could be a whole different person in front of our mothers, while a completely new personality in front of our boss or during our interview. That’s kind of a defense mechanism of our mind which can adapt us to a given situation, and since these personality changes are socially accepted they are often left unnoticed.
Such changes can also be triggered due to a shocking event, a trauma, emotional breakdown and mentally destructive events. In severe cases, mostly when the things become unbearable for a person’s mind to handle, it finds an escape by giving up on that personality and life to acquire a completely new one. It can be considered as an easy way out for the patient, which is another defense mechanism of our brain.
Here are some of the symptoms and signs that can indicate that you may possibly have a growing dissociative identity disorder or multiple personality disorder :
- Memory Problems
As the brain start giving up on the person you are and develop a new personality, it may also start forgetting (or pretending to forget) the important personal information associated to you. Patients may be able to recall the information related to them if they try hard enough, but the point to note is that it gets a more difficult task than it normally should be. The patients may start getting blurry ideas about themselves or even forget who they really are. - Split Personality
Split personality is related to a neurosis condition which around 2% of the people in this world suffering from DID experience. The condition leaves a patient with a dual personality which may be completely in contrast with each other. They are dissociated from each other in such a way that the two different personalities of the same person can be mistaken as two different people. - Mental Troubles
People suffering from DID are usually going through a lot already, and the condition can worsen it. A patient could be losing their mind over little things, fall into depression, get panic attacks and anxiety, experience severe mood swings and get suicidal thoughts. They may even experience different types of hallucinations and experience problems with their sleep due to these factors. As a result, physiological symptoms start to show up, such as eating disorders, alcoholism, use of the drug and obsessive-compulsive behaviors.
