RE: "Freedom is Slavery" - Newspeak in the 21st century and the genius of Orwell
Another great summary.
Two points:
- The people censoring Huck Finn for racism when the intent of the entire book is to ridicule racism are functionally retarted; however there is a reason for their focused idiocy (next point)
- Nice choice of Orwell and the Ministry of Truth here; but that system doesn't work w/o ravening mobs. It doesn't create these mobs, it just focus their raging stupidity. My favorite quote from 1984
And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grammes a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it. Parsons swallowed it easily, with the stupidity of an animal. The eyeless creature at the other table swallowed it fanatically, passionately, with a furious desire to track down, denounce, and vaporize anyone who should suggest that last week the ration had been thirty grammes.
Thanks:) Fantastic point - you need the mob to enforce the changes:)
It's kind of a reinforcing cycle; the system wouldn't exist w/o the mob, but it has to expand the mob with "The Narrative", or Newspeak.
And there is always the possibility that the Newspeak has TOO much of an effect...i.e liberal professors being targeted by the SJW mobs they created, or the Red Guard of China.
Yes exactly. In some way it is like Frankenstein's monster if they turn against you!
