The simple days of feeding your baby a liquid diet may be behind them. Now it's time to introduce solids. It's an exciting time and potentially a confusing time for new moms. So what are the best first foods for your baby?

1. Ripe Avocado

Avocados are perfect foods for babies because they contain all the essential vitamins and minerals a human needs to survive. It's great for your babies' brain and physical development. They are full of fat but the good type of fat, monounsaturated fat. Babies should not be on a low fat diet anyway. Here is the nutritional breakdown of avocados:

2. Puree Bananas

Bananas are another perfect food created by the God Almighty. It doesn't low much, is available year-round, and is packed with so many benefits for babies such as: easy to digest, controls diarrhea, and relieves constipation. Best of all, it supplies essential nutrients to babies.

3. Sweet Potatoes or Yams

What I love most about feeding my baby sweet potatoes is that it kept him full for a long time. That is because of all the fiber it has. It is an amazing and tasty meal that is high in Vitamin A, C, beta carotene as well as folate and calcium for strong bones. My son ate them for a long time because they are high palatable and easy on the digestive tract.

4. Gently Cooked Egg Yolk

You can cook the whites too but the yolk has most of the nutritional benefits. Why eggs for babies you may ask? First, they are a perfect single-ingredient meal. It's reccommended around 6 months for babies because of its healthy source of protein, fat and other nutrients for growth and healthy development.

5. Green Vegetables

Need I say more? No one would argue against giving your baby green vegetables. What I did was blend green smoothies for my baby and it was literally his first solid. Dark leafy vegetables blended with bananas or dairy-free yogurt makes for a great meal. Introduce vegetables slowly as not to disturb their digestive tract. You can also steam and season (optional) broccoli, zuccuni, spinach, and green beans and blend them.
