Stuck in a rut?

in #life6 years ago

This post is being written from a musicians perspective but it does relate to almost everyone.

The Rollercoaster

In life you have good and bad days. For me, I have days where absolutely everything goes right. I wake up without a headache, go into studio, end up working with celebrities and receive a couple bookings that sort me out financially for the next couple months. I get home, my girlfriend is happy, all is well.
But I also have days where everyone goes wrong. I run very thin on cash, no one replies to my messages, no progress is made in my career. Those days is where emotion steps in.

You begin to feel worthless, questioning your direction in life.
What am I doing?
Should I get a stable job?
What if this never works out?

You also get days/weeks/months which have been dubbed as "Writer's block".

Try It Out

Make your bed

  • The first step in getting back up again is to do something where you have a sense of accomplishment. This will in turn promote productivity. Believe it or not, you'll start to feel a little better about yourself.

Play your music

  • Put on your radio, if you don't enjoy what's on the frequency then play your favourites off your phone. Make sure its happy music. Dance music. Who knows maybe it'll spark some inspiration.

Clean the House

  • While you are listening to the music, keep the productivity going. Wash the dishes, vacuum the couch, get rid of the food that is rotting in your fridge. I'm not going to explain scientifically why this works but I will tell you that it works for me.

Dress Up

  • When you're done with cleaning, jump in the shower and then dress up like you're going out. Dress up like you mean business, look in the mirror and feel good about yourself. This will boost your self-esteem and make you feel like you're going to do something important.

Make some Coffee

  • Now that you've accomplished some tasks and you look good, you should feel good. Make a cup of coffee or tea whatever you please, sit down and write down a list of things that you need done. Whether it be a song to finish, a CV to write up, emails to respond to... whatever it is, you know what needs to be done so write them down and tick them off as you go along.

On a side note

Social Media can be a big distraction, put the phone down.

Come now, tick tock.
