Peter the Great, the founder, wanted St.Petersburg to be a "Venezia of Russia", hence he built lots of channels and was even tearing down bridges to promote boat traffic. Unfortunately, today the cars are totally dominating, and the channels are almost only used by sightseeing boats.
yes, i agree with you, but this city is very beautiful and store more information!
