Life as a dream.
I was watching this video this morning
In this video Alan talks about what if you could go to sleep and live in your dream 75 years of time in 8 hours of sleep and what you would do if that is possible. I think this is such an interesting concept because of the endless things you could do. He mentions that the first thing you would do would be to make the perfect life for yourself. For it to contain every pleasure that you could possibly imagine and everything that you could possibly want.
I somewhat disagree with this, if you were confronted with the ability to have everything in an instant i think you wouldn't know what you actually wanted. I think you'd be just stuck there thinking about what you truly desired. After all if you can have absolutely everything in a heartbeat do those things hold much value at all? You only want things because you can’t get them and without this "problem" for lack of a better word, items that you previously held don't have value. I do however think that after some time you would come to make a life for yourself that is what you would call "perfect" but you wouldn't know what you really and what would really make a life that you would call "perfect" straight away.
He further goes on to say that after about a month of experiencing 75 years of pure pleasure you would start to get very bored of it, this is very true. I know i certainly would get very bored of absolute pleasure after having lived it for about 2000 years. And that then you'd invent for yourself a dimension where things don't always go the way you wanted them to one that has risks in them. When you are bored of this you'd think up something else to forget you where dreaming. So that it would be as if you weren't dreaming at all. Eventually you would just go all out, you'd really push yourself for how much control can you loose and how lost could you become and still be able to stand it? Because after all, this is just simply a dream. One that you will wake up from.
After you do this for some time you would dream the life that you were living to begin with. This is after all well within the realm of things that you could dream about. The life that you have now has all of those things that you desire when you have complete control of everything. To be god and to know and have control over everything would be absolutely boring. What you really want is a surprise.
