Feminism in its Real Essense
The main (& only) aim of feminism is to achieve equal rights of every aspects, this includes the field of education and employment, thus abolishing the achaic believe that; "the role of a woman ends in the kitchen.
A real feminist advocates for the equality of women, unlike popular belief that infer this equality to mean inequality by setting all men to fire and fighting to be above them, real feminism aims for a 50-50 allocation of rights.
I am a feminist but a nonconformist one because due to the exploitation of this movement, the fight for equality has resulted in demonization of men and I don't stand for that.
A real feminist still cooks as cooking is not just for women, appreciates the courtesy of doors being held open for her, she does not deliberately put herself in harms way just to prove she's stronger. Let's face it statistically speaking men are physically stronger than women. As a non conformist feminist I don't necessarily have to be the sole decision maker in my life, good advice is welcomed even from the male folk.
To be treated equally as is the objective of feminism we need to treat others equally and help those in need irrespective of their gender. This implies that helping a guy in need (as a woman) is not wrong, asking for help as a man isn't either, none of these demeans you (as a man or as a woman).
The true goal of feminism is to co-exist and compliment each other which is the end game of our different attributes as humans. Feminism is not about enforcing a female dominated society as a revenge on the male-dominated society that existed before; it's about a male-female co-existing society. It's equity, not the opposite.
As time has progressed the 60s and 70s equality of rights we fought for has been achieved: but in an era where even the dictionary can not accurately defined feminism without inducing hatred for either sex, calls for a reorientation. Feminist should state clearly their aim and objectives and not let the media circus ruin what was supposed to be a freedom fight and turn it into a call for war.
The equality of rights has been fought for, true feminism has been achieved and though it seems the fight for equality by feminists began today, may I need remind us all that the socialists and the egalitarians have been fighting for the same thing since yester-years.
My name is Emeh Winnie and I'm a nonconformist feminist.
Accept the challenges so that you can feel the exhilaration of victory.
