CURRENT SITUATION: What it's like to live next door to a meth addict. (VIDEO INCLUDED)

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Actual mugshot of neighbor taken less than 24 hours ago.

This was my whole day yesterday. This situation has been going on for 2 years now. For those who follow me, you may have caught on to the fact that my 3 year old son has autism. Loud noises scare him very easily. In many cases, you can find him covering his ears when he sees something that looks like it could be loud.

We've requested for our neighbor - who seemed genuine and nice at first - to please keep the noise down during certain hours of the day because his music has caused him to panic and in a few cases even cause him to cross over into meltdown territory.

As time passed, however - only a few months, in fact - his noise seemed to occur ONLY at those times. Things eventually progressed to where his behavior became very bizarre, such blowing drops of rain off the top of his car with his leafblower, as well as blow air at leaves still attached to the tree in his front yard...all while it was actively raining!! And of course it was all during the hours we asked for silence. He then began playing a radio in his back yard, and then immediately turn one on in his front yard - different stations - then leave the house!! His house is located literally about 10-12 feet from ours.

We've even taken him to court where he was found guilty of peace disturbance and fined $250 by the judge after the prosecutor only recommended $100 fine. The judge didn't buy a single word of the man's defense, so he stuck it to him.

It wasn't long after that we started realizing it was coming in waves, and that he was staying up for hours and hours on end when it happened. We had our suspicions that he was on drugs, but then we finally had a cop come to the house - one of the MANY cops we've had to bring out - who was able to look at him and say,

"You're high on meth, aren't you? I'm former EMT, buddy. You can't lie to me. I can plainly see that you are high on meth right now."

Suddenly it all made sense.
Now, the cop didn't do anything to him then because, technically, it's not illegal to be high, it's illegal to possess the substances. So he told him, "If I have to come back out here for this kind of thing, I'm going to have a warrant with me and we'll be tearing apart your house."
That was about 7 or 8 months ago.

We've been trying to get that cop back out here ever since.

Every time, it's always new cops. We've had repeat visits from 2 of the many we've had out here, so we have to start all over and get them caught up with what's going on, and it always ends up with, "We'll go talk to him" followed by "Okay, we talked to him. He's agreed to keep it down and stay over there and you guys need to agree to stay over here."

There have been yelling matches galore. We're getting to the point where we're starting to think he'll try hurting someone.

Check out this video of what happened yesterday. We had the cops out to visit us 3 times JUST YESTERDAY. This is what happened after the first 2 visits.

Backstory on the filing cabinet:

That filing cabinet was originally his. He had it lying in our yard for days near the bush line so I told him to move it and he said "it's got a 'free' sign on it, so whoever wants it". So I grabbed it and put it next to my trash bin to throw it away so I could get it off my property if he won't do it. That was at about 10:30 am. The video of him doing the mad meth dash towards it was around 7 to 7:30pm. Apparently he had second thoughts about giving it up? That's why you can hear @jazzyfish tell him to get it off our property since he moved it that far.

The mugshot at the top of this whole thing is actually because he earned himself a DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) on his own last night - we didn't have anything to do with that. Apparently the city police don't care about arresting you until you actually become a physical danger. So, driving while drunk is bad, but terrorizing a 3-yr old autistic boy every day in his own home is apparently totally cool.

Sort:

OMG I'm so sorry you have to deal with this. We have issues with people dealing drugs next door and Police does not do anything about it. I have to confess that they are way quieter than this guy.

Most drug users don't behave like this guy. Unfortunately he seems to also have real psych issues or be on something more than the meth itself.

I'm hoping this situation gets better. For your well being but mostly for your son. That's not fair. This guy is scum and hopefully goes away for a long time.

Ah the wonders of neighbors lol glad I have acres between me and the next person

Wow. This guy is wacked out. I'm sorry you are dealing with this. You can't possibly feel like your family is safe. I would put my money on a mind altering drug like K2. I'm a paramedic and fortunately don't deal with a lot of hard core substance abusers in my area, but we've had our share. Stay alert because it will most likely get worse before it gets better. The sad thing is, so many people are decent when they are sober but they let this stuff ruin their lives.

Oh wow what I small world. I'm in springfield too! Methamphetamine use is a pretty substantial problem in the Midwestern US. I know too many meth users sadly...

Ok, thanks for sharing. I gotta be honest:

  1. I couldn't watch the video and couldn't read past that point. I got the picture; unfortunately, it's a messy one.
  2. I wish I knew the answer, but I don't think I do.
  3. I have had some experience with drug addiction, leading all the way up to now. I'm on lesser substances (pot and booze) perhaps than this individual -- Nontheless, I know what it is like to: A. Be a quasi-functioning druggie. B. Be able to put on a sober face when the consequences are edging in, but then go right off the deep end as soon as nobody is watching.

I pray for you and your son.

I also encourage you to consider this man's pain and torment -- someone who uses meth as he apparently does, might really hate themselves and possibly hate life.

Although a massive challenge, this man might need a friend right now -- not cops. Maybe he needs somebody to try and hear him. IDK. I'm glad I got the perspective you shared so I can refrain from being belligerant at the expense of those already suffering.
❤️✌️🦋

After spending 2 years next to this guy, I can tell you we're way beyond that. I don't want to be his friend. A meth addict is not someone you "befriend".

Maybe friend is too strong a word. Sympathetic ear, perhaps. And it need not be you. Perhaps a trained drug interventionist? Do you know if he has family? Perhaps you could contact someone and inform them of how he is acting? I don't expect to have your answer, but I'd like to be able to know I tried. ❤️ Wishing you a speedy resolution to this long-lasting issue.

Holy crap what the hack wow totally space and out of control does math really do make people act like that ???!!! damn he completely lost it... for how long is he awake already

Sorry to hear that. What a fu**ing sittuation. Really hope you can find a way to get the guy restrained or at least moved elsewhere. He doesn't look like he's even percieving the world clearly enough that you could actually communicate with him.
