Malaria is not to far from us
It is very important that we pay close attention to the little details pertaining our health. Ordinary diseases like malaria could turn out to be very tragic at the end of the day. I remember hearing a story of a girl who lives not to far away from me that lost her life to the malaria we see as ordinary which could easily have been prevented. When we examine our lives, we would realize that malaria is not too far from us. It all begins from the state of our surroundings. When we allow water to gather around our homes in small puddles or leave our gutters blocked and filled with water, here comes mama mosquito looking for a place to lay her eggs. She sees your compound with stagnant water all around. Good news for her! She lays her eggs and after the whole development cycle emerges the hungry blood thirsty League of mosquitoes looking for the closest blood supply around which is most likely your house. When you leave your windows and doors opened, they come in and wait patiently for you to come in with their meal. A little blood probably wouldn't hurt to donate to a poor hungry mosquito that depend on it for survival. The main problem occurs when an anopheles mosquito carrying the malaria causing parasite feeds on your blood. A single bite might not give you malaria but when these plasmoduim carrying mosquitoes keep injecting the parasite into your bloodstream, it one day develops into malaria. At the end of the day when you start feeling feverish, dizzy and drowsy, you put the blame on your innocent village people for your predicament when your carelessness caused it. The money we spend on malaria drugs and hospital bills in severe cases could be used for other beneficial purposes. Learn to keep your surroundings clean and stagnant water free, use insecticides and mosquito nets then also net windows and doors which would curb the rate at which these mosquitoes invade our houses. Health is wealth. Let's say no to malaria today.
