What do you think , children & compters?

in #life6 years ago

Good evening steemains !

Hope everyone is doing fine.

I don't know about other parents but sometimes I don't know what to do.
What about letting your children on the computer/ipad/laptop?

When I was young I played outside with friends or when it was cold I played inside with toys. When I was a bit older, think around 7, we had 1 computer. I needed to share it with my brother and sister. It was a very old computer so the only thing we were allowed to do on it was 1 game. When the years went by we got a newer computer with more games and very fast also internet. Not that I knew what that was , I only played games on the computer. Educational games so that was good.

For me as a child it was all very new and just upcoming but now having a computer / ipad / laptop is very normal. I have a son who is 4 years old. He has his own ipad and is allowed to be on it so now and then. Sometimes he plays games with the alfabet or numbers and sometimes he is watching netflix.

Now my issue is that I don't want him to look at the screen (tv/ipad/computer etc) too much because I think it's important the he can play without all of that and that it's healthy to play outside. But at the other hand the computer is the future so isn't it a good idea to learn him how to handle it ?

I really want that he knows how to work with the computer because that is a great benefit for his future, but what age is best to start with that.

Well, everyone probably has his own opinion on this subject.. I think I need to find the balance so that he can learn already how to handle the computer but also that he knows how to play without technology and play outside with friends.

I'm curiours to your opinion, so share your thoughts :)

My husband is in education and something came through his office about the safety of wifi, since this time he has been heavily studying the subject, not just EMF/RF which is the radiation given off these such devices but also what these devices do to the brain, addiction, the problems all this "blue light" causes etc. Once you go down the rabbit hole, it a whole new world and you start to look at things very differently. He's been self studying this for years now, in this time he has attended lectures from visiting scientists from all around the globe. He has made connections and friends with Drs, scientists and other leading experts in the field from all around the globe. He was recently approached by an organisation to become their secretary because of the contacts he's made over time and his knowledge.

Just to give you an idea... my husband's work is all IT related, so what he has learnt goes against his career. In saying that, he has and is making the changes within his work environment to make it safe for the staff and children. He has never owned a mobile phone. I have but have since turned it off. It remains off in my car at all time in case of an emergency. We have all wired internet at home, no wifi. We have a corded home telephone as all cordless DECT phones are just as bad as a mobile phones. We don't own a microwave, game consoles are played VERY seldomly and have to remain unplugged as they still spray RF radiation everywhere even when they're not turned on (they must be unplugged from the wall).

We have ipads but airplane mode is always on... and that would be the biggest thing I would advise to you, is when your son is using it, always make sure it is on airplane mode. Children absorb the radiation coming off these devices 10x more than we do as adults. And if you look in the legal section of the ipad, it will tell you to meet the safety requirements that the antennas (yes there's more than one) are to be kept at least 30cm away from the body. Mobile phones have this same warning in them, most advise up to 15mm away from the body at all times - all phones are a little different, you'd need to check yours. The reason this distance is set, is because when tested against the skin, they don't meet safety standards. Our standards are pretty weak too... so the further you're away the better.

So for us, we turn on the wifi on the ipad, we download what ever it is we want to add and then it remains off at all times. There's no worries and concerns then for EMF/RF radiation. In saying that our kids are monitored, I'd rather them not really use anything at all, the world of addiction and digital dementia is really on the rise. You just need to look around at the teenagers of today to see what these devices are doing to them!

As far as blue light goes... there are bio-hacks you can use to block out the blue light (blue light does affect melatonin in turn disrupts sleep).

This is probably WAY more information than you thought you'd EVER get.. but I think it's important for everyone to know and understand the risks these simple devices are posing on our children which industry does a VERY good job of covering up the truth, hiding the truth but making sure they also cover their asses so they can't be sued when something goes wrong.

If you'd like to ask any other questions feel free...

Wauw thank you for taking your time to answer me. I didn´t knew this at all.

Not only teenagers, when you walk in the city or sit in the bus or train everyone is on his mobile phone. Everyone is addicted to it. When you are on a party everyone is looking at his phone serverall times. Couple years ago you didn´t saw that.

I try to prevent that to give him only the ipad from time to time an almost no tv and no mobile phone untill he is older but with limits. I know children who already on his age are addictec to the screen and want to watch all the time.

Thanks for sharing, it was very usefull

You're very welcome... most people are unaware which is why so many scientists in several fields are up in arms about the corruption going on.

Yes you are right... it is a lot of the population, I just used teenagers as an example as many of them have grown up with the technology unlike older generations and they seem to be a lot worse, not saying that other folk in other generations are not as bad. : )

There's a huge break down in communication between people now a days. For something that was meant to keep us better connected, it does a good job of taking away socialising skills.

Less is certainly best... you need to remember that apps are designed to get you addicted, they want you keep using it, they're made so you get that dopamine hit and that is where the addiction first starts. Screen addiction is a huge problem and if you look at the statistics of screen addiction in toddlers to early school year aged children, it's quite scary!

It certainly sounds like you're doing all the right things! : )

Thanks @a-0-1
Do you have children? What is your opinion?

well is there a simple answer to this question?
i think less is more - my son is nearly six and he is allowed to play
up to 1 hour a day on a laptop - this way i motivated him to learn chess -now he is winning against me!!!
he also likes playing memory and became really good at it.
i think its important to enable him to use a PC.
but TV does much more harm than good for children!!

no probably not haha
wauw that's awesome.. that are good things because they also train their brains when they play chess or memory. So that's a good idea.

Yeah I agree, TV does more harm because you only sit behind the screen doing nothing and getting brainwashed
