How to avoid negative self-perception and focus on positive

in #life3 years ago

People who have negative feelings about themselves believe that all of the unpleasant things that happen to them are as a result of their own actions...

It's safe to say that he holds himself responsible for everything that goes wrong. After a failed marriage, a divorced lady claims that she was abandoned by her husband because she was "not someone to love." This discovery, on the other hand, is associated with the individual's perception of himself as unloved. The end of a relationship can be brought about by a variety of factors, including incompatibility between people over time, the desire for variety, and so forth.

When a person accepts responsibility for a traumatic event, his or her confidence in himself or herself begins to erode. Consider the following scenario: A man loses his job as a result of the economic crisis and thinks to himself, "I'm a cripple, I can't maintain my family... " People with unfavourable self-perceptions are unable to think of anything positive about themselves when they are asked to describe their own personality traits.

Negative self-perceptions about one's own "flaws" can present itself in a variety of ways. A person's life is scrutinised in the light of this apparent defect. He or she reviews every event that has occurred. Even a slight setback is sufficient to persuade him that he is the one who is to blame.

For example, a person who has negative self-perceptions may interpret a disagreement with his mother as "I am a person who does not have good relationships, and I can't even get along with my mother," when in fact the opposite is true. This technique of reading events further erodes one's sense of self-worth and self-confidence. When a friend states he is too busy to talk to him, the statement "He doesn't want to talk to me, he doesn't value me enough to spend time with" may be interpreted as disrespectful.

To summarise, in order to prevent being negatively impacted by an event, a person must first examine his or her own beliefs about themselves and how they should behave. The conviction that one is unworthy, undesirable, or imperfect will lead to a person blaming everything that occurs in their lives on that belief.

Our reactions to an experience are influenced by how we interpret it, rather than by what actually happened. Emotions are influenced by our perceptions of what has happened. If you find yourself being overly sensitive and touchy in human connections, or if you feel rejected or unwanted in your relationships, put aside the external factors and concentrate on how you analyse your own situation.
