How to know that egg is in perfect condition to eat or not?

Here are simple food hack to test

Floating test:

  • Take a bowl of water
  • Put eggs in this bowl
  • If they go down to the bottom and settle flat , then they are fresh
  • If they settle by standing at one end at the bottom, they are few weeks old but still good  to eat
  • They are not good enough to eat if they float.

Candling Test:

Here is an another test to test the freshness of eggs. Its bit difficult to judge in this test.. but just you can try!

  • Go near a light source like a bulb or you can even use flashlights or better to use LED egg candle light
  • Hold  the egg in-front of light source.
  • By doing so, light pass through the egg and you can see inside the shell.
  • It shows you the amount of air filled up and the amount of  mold.
  • If you see very little air space and  slightly visible yolk , then tadaa... its fresh to eat.
  • If its little old, then you can see larger air space and  slightly darker yolk
  • If its about to become a bad egg then  you can see really dark yolk and spotty
  • If its spoiled egg, the the yolk will be mixed up and  lots of dark.

Another method to know the freshness of eggs is cracking test on plates/flat surfaces.

Crack test:

  • Take a plate/any flat thing
  • Crack the egg on it.
  • If the yolk is bright yellow in color / orange in color then its fresh and also the white part should not spread lot.
  • Then smell it, Fresh eggs will not have smell much.
  • If the eggs are old, the yolk will be flat and white part spreads lot. But it may not be bad it is just old.
  • If its bad test, there will be bad smell.
