The modern lifestyle heavily depends on the chemical usage. There are chemicals in almost everything that we use. The food we eat grows on chemical fertilizers. The air we breathe contains harmful gases. These chemicals have hazardous effects on our mind and body and can cause anything from allergies to cancer.

Unfortunately, it is nearly impossible to completely eradicate the use of toxic chemicals from our life, but we can certainly lower our dependence on them. Following are some of the simple ways to reduce the use of chemicals in our life:

Eat organic food:

Non-organic farming uses harmful pesticides and fertilizers that enter our body through the food we eat. Long-term exposure to them can be harmful. Organic food contains nearly 0% harmful chemicals. Also, they are more nutritious. The only disadvantage is that they are costlier than non-organic food. But more and more farmers are turning to organic farming nowadays, which would hopefully reduce its price in the future.

Avoid processed food:

Most of the processed food contain artificial colors, sweeteners, and preservatives. These chemicals are harmful to our bodies. Therefore, it is better to avoid them and switch to freshly prepared food. Home food is the best food.

Wash vegetables and fruits thoroughly before eating:

The best way to wash fruits and vegetables is to wash them right before you eat in under clean running water. This washes off a trace amount of pesticides and fertilizers. It also saves you from food-borne diseases to some extent.

Switch to natural cosmetics:

Artificial cosmetics are not only harmful but also costlier. Many manufacturing companies test them on animals, which is cruel. Their production also has detrimental effects on the environment.

Natural cosmetics can easily be prepared from the things around our home. You can always use natural things, like aloe vera gel, orange peel, and other natural things. Many companies are selling readymade natural cosmetics. You can use them if you are short on time.

Avoid use of plastic:

Recently, a group of researchers found tiny plastic particles in the bloodstream of 80% people they tested. These particles can cause diseases, like diabetes or cancer. By making some simple changes, we can easily reduce the use of plastic, like using a steel bottle for drinking water, cloth bags instead of a plastic bag, using metal containers to store food, etc.

Use organic clothes:

Clothes made from materials like cotton, jute, linen, etc., are eco-friendly as well as good for skin. Artificial materials, like nylon, polyester, etc., are not good for skin, and hence should be avoided.

Use chemical-free products:

Nowadays, many companies are coming forward with chemical-free products. We can substitute many day-to-day items, like soaps, shampoos, floor cleaners, laundry products, etc., with these chemical-free products.

Use alternative medicines whenever possible:

Allopathic medicines are made from chemicals which have harmful effects on our body. Long-term use can cause liver and kidney failure as well as allergies and even cancer. Therefore, we should avoid using allopathic medicines whenever possible. Ayurveda and Homeopathy are good alternatives to allopathy and can be availed for many minor as well as major diseases.

By following the above-mentioned ways, you can considerably reduce the chemical exposure in your life. If you know more ways to do so, please feel free to share.
