Motivation! Where are you?

in #lifestyle7 years ago

Whether you want to quit smoking, clean the basement that you've been putting off for months or bigger changes like starting your business or applying for a better job you need that initial first step. The thought of changing your routine can be challenging and most of you will probably end up procrastinating and finding more excuses to not do it.

I've talked to a few people about motivation and I didn't end up with any clear answers. But I did end up making a few observations.

Don't tell anyone

Talking to people about your plans might be your first reaction, but it's not as good an idea as you would think. Your goals are your own, and telling people about them can actually hinder your drive to do them. If you tell people that you plan on starting a bakery, they will already see you as a baker, which won't motivate you to actually do the work in order to become one. So keep it a secret!

Face your negativity

What stops you from pursuing your goals? If for example, your goal is to lose weight, ask yourself, why are you stopping yourself? Take a step back and think about what your reason for sabotaging yourself is. If you don't attempt to meet your goal, you'll never reach it. You going ahead towards your goal gives you a better chance of reaching it.

Baby steps

Give yourself small goals. Looking forward to the end result can be overwhelming. If you need to clear the basement, and you tell yourself all the things you need to do immediately, you'll end up discouraged. Start by doing something small, like dusting, and once your done that, you'll get more drive to finish decluttering everything.

Take time for yourself

If you set a goal, and move forward with all guns blazing never taking breaks, you'll find it difficult to keep going. Allow yourself time, especially if it's a long term goal like starting a small business or going back to school. You can't kick some ass if you get exhausted or sick!

Now go out there and do the thing! I believe in you! 💖💖💖

True! And also it's not good to tell someone what your plans are in the beginning because if it doesn't fit into their scope or reality they may criticize, tell you how it won't work and weaken your desire. I've experienced this time after time and I learned to keep my mouth closed.

That's also true. I learned that the hard way.

we all need motivation in every thing we do including eating

Oh yeah, that's a thing I gotta do hahaha

Thank you for the great post! We all need to work on our motivation and self awareness at times. It's easy for me to point out my deficiencies...but what am I doing to change them? Thanks for the inspiration! @rlyeh

You're welcome! :)
