Reborn in Christ: You must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. Ephesians 4:17
In the Epistle to the Ephesians, a letter addressed to several churches in Asia Minor and written by the Apostle Paul, the teaching of the new man reborn in Christ stands out above all. Through the gifts of faith and hope, all Christians are called to a personal transformation, explained Paul, and this change that man must undergo to reach adulthood is above all a progressive and gradual change; the Kingdom of God, the dominion or government of the divine perfections, begins with simple decisions that gradually produce significant effects. Ultimately, this incremental growth of the mind requires a new birth, not of the flesh but of the spirit, because with this, God places a spiritual seed in the heart of man, granting his creature his very essence, the wisdom; and this is what Jesus taught to Nicodemus when this teacher of the law went to see the divine master at night.
And the apostle Paul, enlightened by the gift of faith, did not forget this spiritual teaching from the Gospel of John. This is why the apostle of the Gentiles wrote these brief words on the subject: "Throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God-truly righteous and holy" Ephesians 4:22-24.
And Paul, going deeper into the subject, spoke about what the followers of the path of Jesus should avoid: "You must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking" Ephesians 4:17. The problems of the world, with its anxieties and fleeting desires, often cause Christians to lose the path that leads to life, the path of righteousness ("Do to others what you would have them do to you" Matthew 7:12), and this is what must be avoided above all else, Paul emphasized; those who do not know Jesus are fundamentally hopeless people who have hardened their hearts, and they do not know the grace of the spiritual rebirth.
