Let us help Yellow Babies: Run for a Cause

in #liverrunph7 years ago (edited)

Hi everyone! This is my first post here in Steemit and I would like my first article to help babies with liver disease.

Here in the Philippines a lot of babies are suffering from a liver disease called Biliary Atresia.
Biliary Atresia is a rare disease of liver where bile produced by the liver is trapped inside the liver due to narrow, blocked or missing bile ducts. This may damage liver cells and eventually cause liver cirrhosis and liver failure. Symptoms like Jaundice or yellowing of the skin, dark urine and acholic stools usually appear two weeks to two months after birth. A temporary solution for Biliary Atresia is called Kasai procedure where in bile ducts are reconstructed to restore bile flow to the intestine. However, not all babies are qualified to undergo Kasai procedure thus a liver transplant is needed.

Unfortunately, most of their families could not afford the expensive treatment and medications for these little fighters. Treatments usually costs millions abroad and even here in the Philippines. To be able to help Yellow Babies or babies with liver disease, Liver Transplant Philippines Movement (LTPM) organized a Fun Run . This run for a cause will help raise funds for Yellow Babies that needs operation and cover medications for post-liver transplantees . So if you do have time, please join in their Fun Run on July 1, 2018. Details below.
