The Valentine Series | Tinder Moments That Are So Awkward, You Wish The Earth Swallowed You
For my Valentine series, I decided to come up with a variety of content. Partly experimentation, and mostly for fun. But what's more fun than listening to funny date stories right?
The worst it is, the more you'll be baffled (or mind blown, admit it— you love it, you sadist)
While you're shying away from the limelight for whatever reason this Vday, I'm bringing some skeletons out of the closet.
I managed to extract and compile a few compelling, and embarrassing Tinder moments from a friend's or friends' friends experience over last weekend, just in time for this mini project.
Interestingly, as attractive as you are, you'll still bound to have sucky blind dates or creepy weirdos at the end of the day, and I'm not talking about gender specific. It applies to everybody from all walks of life and different sexual orientations!
1. The One Who Got Ditched
I met a guy in Tinder who happened to travel to PJ a lot. He's based in KL. We talked for about meeting for a while before he decides to make his trip down to one of the local malls. It was my mistake as I tried to arrange the first 'date' as movie night. I mean, what's the harm of watching a movie right? Wrong.
During the movie, he tried being close to me. Leaning on my shoulder and wanting to hold my hand. After a grueling 1 hour-ish, I got up. Pretending I'd rush for the toilet, I made a run for it. What the heck was he thinking— being so close and all?
I knew that he'd eventually notice my disappearance. Not wanting him to chase after me, I ran as fast as I can to my car and got lost in the process of doing so. When I got to my car, I was panting heavily I can't forget how my heart almost popped.
Soon enough, he realized that my toilet break was a long one, so he asked if I'm okay. I never replied and didn't answer his call. I felt terrible afterward but not as bad as when I was stuck with him for that one-hour of PDA.
Lesson learned. Never go for a movie on a blind date in case things don't work out.
2. The One Who (Deliberately) Got Away
After talking and Skyping for about a month, he wanted to sponsor me over to Tokyo, so that we could spend time together. It was a really sweet gesture, and I am starting to fall for him at that time, so without much convincing, I said YES.
The day arrived, and I got excited about us. We spent a whole good week— sightseeing, nature walks, and stuffs couples usually do. I thought this might work. Apparently, it's quite the opposite.
Good things never last.
Finally, we bade our goodbyes at the airport; we hugged when he responded with— " Thanks for coming. I'm glad you came to visit."
Just that? Thanks for coming?
Sure enough, the honeymoon was over. After that, he went silent.
Too bad for us, 'cause I really thought this might work out.
3. The One Who's A Drama King
I've been seeing this Tinder guy for about a month before things starting to go awry. I thought he might finally be the rose amongst all the other thorns in Tinder. Boy, was I dead wrong.
Halfway through our relationship, one of his so-called exes texted me on Instagram.
She asked me to back off and that he's always hers. Naturally, I confronted the guy, and he denied this commotion, claiming that she's just one of the many psychotic exes he had to endure.
As creepy as her message is, she's even more terrifying when she continues to stalk my account, and throw a tantrum about a picture of his leg (yes, just a glimpse of his leg and it's a huge deal) I took, and posted in IG.
I totally didn't sign up for this, so I quickly dashed out of this toxic relationship— and dumped the dude. He can deal with all his mess.
PS: She's not the only one who's head over heels for him. This, I had to find out the harsh way too.
Tinder— love it or hate it, is the monster that lived in your closet.
The skeletons that stalk you when you're lonely, lurks without reason yet they provide some heart-breaking and great material for storytelling.
While it’s unfair to assume that every Tinder experience ends badly, some do get their 'happily ever after' from this platform. Though most 9/10 dates most definitely don't lead to marriage or even second date.
Flinch all you want, along with me — and perhaps think thrice about swiping right on that cute dude with a puppy.
What's your funny/ heartbreaking/ interesting/ exciting Tinder moments?

I never tried tinder ever but I heard a lot about it.
Me too ;)
@deborism, I just can't stop laughing. Your article is so funny and entertaining, yet very impressive writeout.
@deborism They're quite hilarious indeed. The one with the girl that got away was super. Just the thought that the other person thinks everything is going well and then boom! She's gone.
I'm sad for the girl on the Tokyo Story.
I enjoyed the read and some were good lessons on how to deal with tinders.
Happy ♥s to you.
@dawnsheree I actually feel bad for the guy when she told me about this. I'm like 'What???' LOL nooooooo....
Lol but who wouldn't feel bad for him? :) But I do hope he gets to be with his someone now. ^^
Every experience can be meaningful if you're looking the right way.
