The value of reciprocity

in #loveyesterday

We've always talked about giving without expecting anything in return. When we say this, we mean giving selflessly, without demanding anything in return or payment for our service.

However, in life, we must be reciprocal, especially when we talk about personal relationships. This reciprocity is a form of gratitude and is what holds relationships together.

In other words, even if we give unconditionally, there's a practical universal law that shows us that when we give something of value, we should, and usually expect to, receive something similar in return. This may sound like a contradictory tongue twister, but it isn't.

Therefore, a healthy relationship isn't maintained or sustained by promises or good intentions, but by the balance of presence, respect, and consistency from both parties. Words are easy.

What demonstrates the value of a bond are sustained actions: presence when needed, respect in disagreements, and consistency between what is said and what is done. If only one party provides these elements, the relationship will eventually become unsustainable.
