LoveFriday - Locks of Love
In many different cities all over the world, gates and fences are decorated with padlocks. It is an ancient custom, very likely originated in China.
Lovers engrave their name on a padlock, lock it and throw away the key. That way they are symbolically locking their love forever.
These engraved padlocks are an expression of hope and humanity, connecting people all over the world with the one thing that unites us all: LOVE!
These photos were shot on a railway bridge in Cologne.

Just imagine the weight of all those padlocks on the poor gate/bridge.
I think I heard something a while ago that they all had to be taken off from some bridge because they were just too heavy (or they were renovating the old thing... )

If you ever by chance visit Paris or Praga you will find yourself pleased with the amounts of locks on bridges ;)
I have seen in in Paris.
Last time I were in Paris there were so many of those locks that the city cleaning group was instructed to take them down. They said something about their big weight and bridge safety,but ppl still hang em :)

I love lovelocks. Such a nice symbolism! It's sad cities have to remove them from bridges because of safety hazards. I mean, I get it, but still sad to see all those symbols of love go away. Nice photos!
Great pics ! I think the bridge in Paris had most of them removed as the bridge was in danger of collapsing eeeeeK !!
