Sprouting Mung Beans Fifth and Last Day macrophotography

in #macrophotography7 years ago (edited)

The last day for sprouting my mung beans has come. At this point, they will not grow well if I leave them longer. You can see I am starting to get leaves, and they are more brown than in previous photos.

What about the brown stuff? That is always on the sprouts I sprout at home; and almost never on the sprouts I used to get at the store. I used to worry about it, but I do not find the taste or texture to be harmed, so I just go with it. The longer they grow – the browner they seem to become. If I had gotten to these about 6 hours earlier – there would be less brown.

If I do not eat them all right away, I will put the spouts in the fridge and they will last for days. I've never had them in there long enough to go bad, so I can’t tell you how long that would be. I will usually have eaten them before 3 days pass after sprouting, and they always taste fresh.

Key points to remember for sprouting:

  • Rinse and then soak covered in water for 12-24 hours
  • Do NOT keep soaking in water – it is more like keeping them damp after the first soak
  • Keep in a dark place while sprouting - not too warm - not too cold
  • Check morning and night at least – don’t let them dry out - cover loosely if you need to
  • Test after the third day to see how you like the taste
  • Keep in the fridge after sprouting

All of this information goes for any other bean and some seeds. It does not take many to try sprouting, so you have nothing to lose!

Everything I thought I knew about how to lose weight was wrong. This was why I could never lose weight. Once I got an education about health, learned skills, and applied them - the weight came off and has never been a problem again. You can do this too. If you ask me for help, I will help you.

This photograph makes me want to take a bite! I'm also interested in health and nutrition and started following you :)

P.S. The #dailyfoodphotography tag has a new curator. I talked to @howtostartablog about changing it to a weekly contest. You can read the update here. Thanks for sharing your food photos and advice!

Thank you so much for the follow and the info for #dailyfoodphotography - I was sad about that loss. Going to the post now.

Firstly I am so inspired by your health journey, your before and after pictures absolutely blew me away! I am so happy for you 💚

And these sprouts are super easy - I love that you made a sprouting series, I have been looking for some comprehensive informaiton about sprouting and I think I have found what I have been looking for! Thank you for sharing your story and your tips along the way ⭐️

Oh, that's wonderful! You make my day with this comment and compliments :) I decided to do this project this as a series because I thought it would work better for us all.

After you are done soaking, you don't need to see that again. Hopefully people can click into the day they need when they aren't sure if they are doing it right. But really - it is very easy and good luck with trying it!

I am from the countryside and I like plants, the germination process is very interesting!

Thank you - It's a good way to get some fresh food on hand.

This is how I was able to make several attempts to germinate beans at school, it was a tare for nature so it was called materia

Interesting. I did not get to sprout at school, but now I do it in life :)

The mung which got leafs are they edible?

Yes they are - I count these as green veggies once they have the leaves. They taste very good.

Amazing how much life there is after 5 days of growing! This has been a really cool post series :)

Thank you - This idea was an experiment and I will try it again :)

Like I said yesterday we share somethings in common... I’m working on my weight too. Thanks for sharing, i’ Going to apply same method on my potatoes. Will sprout and boil my potatoes 🥔 right away!

I'm not sure about the idea for potatoes. It think once they sprout, they are better left to grow. I got out of the habit of eating potatoes. In the US potatoes are so highly sprayed that they will not spout properly unless you get organic.

Keep up the good habits and you will soon be past the "weight loss" phase of like. This is such a relief to me.
