I used to be able to solve both the 3x3 and 4x4, but have since forgotten the algorithm.. I should re-learn it again. I was never fast with it, but would use it to win some bets from time to time.
A lot of it is muscle memory so I suspect it won't take that long to relearn!
I do remember the 4x4 isn't that much different than the 3x3 once you solve the center. Yep, I know what I'm doing later.
Apparently very similar except for a couple of parity cases.
