🕉️ Maha Shivaratri

Maha Shivaratri (महाशिवरात्रि) is a major Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Shiva. It means “The Great Night of Shiva.”

📅 When is it celebrated?

It falls on the 14th night of the dark fortnight (Krishna Paksha) in the Hindu month of Falgun (February–March).
In 2026, Maha Shivaratri will be celebrated on February 15, 2026.

🙏 Why is it celebrated?

Different beliefs say:
1. It is the divine marriage day of Shiva and Parvati.
2. It marks the night when Shiva performed the Tandava dance (cosmic dance of creation and destruction).
3. It is believed Shiva manifested as a Lingam of light on this night.

🛕 How is it celebrated?
• Devotees fast (vrat) all day.
• They stay awake all night (Jagaran).
• Offer milk, water, honey, belpatra (bael leaves) to Shiva Lingam.
• Chant “Om Namah Shivaya”.
• Visit temples like Pashupatinath Temple, where thousands gather in Nepal.

🌙 Special in Nepal

In Nepal, especially at Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu, sadhus (holy men) from Nepal and India gather, and the festival is celebrated with great devotion.

If you want, I can also tell you the story of Maha Shivaratri in simple words 😊
