Ancient Trigonometric Table

in #mathematics7 years ago

I never was good at math, but I always loved math. Those things that I didn't understand seemed to me as a very high mountain peak that is worth climbing just to see the view. Here we have a wonderful math teacher, our own @mathworksheets, who already expanded our views beyond expectations. But he had a predecessors…

Ancient Babylonians were better at trigonometry than we could even imagine. Australian scientists announced they have discovered the purpose of a 3,700-year-old Babylonian tablet. It is a trigonometric table with the base of 60! This base allows much quicker and more precise calculations. It also shows that Old Babylonians know the Pythagorean theorem far before Pythagora!

And here are two scientist who explain their discovery:

I find this discovery a spectacular one. What would you say?

Very informative my dear friend @lighteye. We have lost the ratio based trigonometry but it is perfect its own way.

Once again, thank you very much for your generous support my dear @mathworksheets. I thought you might be interested in this news from the history of math.

Yes the video really enhance my knowledge about the angle based trigonometry and ratio based trigonometry. Please don't mention my little support for your great work, I love your work and wish I could reward it even bigger!!

Maths has always been a part of of lives even our ancestors can count at least their children isnt it? and counting is maths

Interesting! It's amazing how much knowledge that is lost and rediscovered. My kids and I were just watching Donald Duck in Mathmagic Land where they explained how many times the golden mean was rediscovered and renamed.

The math excites me because at a first glance it looks so boring but it works miraculously in so many spheres in hour lives, all those patterns it helps to discover and sent space ships tens of millions kilometers away with a pinpoint precision. it is really crazy when you think about it, and understand a bit about it too :)

The ancients were not daft. It's just a shame that so much knowledge was not built on in later cultures.

@mathworksheets got you a $1.2 @minnowbooster upgoat, nice!
