Why Mathematics Matters so much: We are math at a genetic level
Noam Chomsky delivered the connection between language and DNA for humanity to consider. From personal experiences I believe this to be absolutely true: language is encoded in DNA.
Since Mathematics is also a language we can conclude (if one believes in Chomsky's sound theories, or has personal experience verification as I have) - that our connection to this language is at the genetic level.
In a previous post I describe that:
The Universe gifted humanity with the pre-frontal cortex - the ability to study the Universe at a deep and profound level (of abstract Mathematics). Of course - the development of this part of the brain will partially be guided by genetics, further proving the connections between DNA and mathematics.
The point is this:
We are deeply affected by our relationship with mathematics - at the DNA level, where chemistry, energy and physics interact to create the Life Force.
It is vital to understand the profoundness of this truth. In actual fact, it can be readily observed that failure in mathematics learning has a greater emotional and spiritual impact on us, than any other subjects.
What is my proof of such a grand-sweeping fact? What statistically verified experiment has proven this factual statement? The proof lies in your questioning of humans. Just ask them if they ever cried or got very upset over failing in math. Then ask if the get that upset over failing in other subjects. The truth to my statement will become obvious in your observations:
In actual fact, it can be readily observed that failure in mathematics learning has a greater emotional and spiritual impact on us, than any other subjects*. (Note: not all humans fail, or have had difficulties with math learning!).
Clearly, nature is telling us that we must take great care in our establishment of a relationship with mathematics.
In order to do this, we must:
- understand the pre-frontal cortex, and be explicit about abstractedness in mathematics learning
- teach math in a non-abstract way, especially for teenagers
- teach math as a language, explicitly

*Highschool level English learning also has as great of an impact. Indeed - the connection is that language is bound to and expressed via our genetics.
That is interesting, teaching maths as a language, explicitly. I always believed you are capable either of maths or languages.
Follow the thread, bcs I will clearly explain why people fail at maths, and why others succeed.
