How do I fix setup errors in electronic distance measuring equipment?
Been wrestling with my electronic distance measuring setup all week, and it's driving me up the wall. I’m doing land survey work for a small contractor, and my EDM keeps throwing setup errors even though I swear I’m following the same steps I’ve done for years. Tripod is level, prism is clean, batteries are fresh, but the thing still refuses to behave. I’m starting to wonder if I’m missing something stupid or if the unit is just aging out on me. Before I drag it to a repair shop, I’d love to hear what others would check or try.
Have you checked if the prism constant or instrument height got reset during the week? Those tiny changes can throw readings way off. I’ve also had issues vanish after cleaning the lens and doing a quick recalibration. If you’re still dealing with this, what model are you using?
I’d start by checking the prism alignment and making sure the tripod is stable. I’ve also had bad readings from low battery power or heat shimmer, so recheck those conditions too.
