Long pepper
Long pepper
is a flowering vine in the family Piperaceae. cultivated for its fruit, which is usually dried and used as a spice & seasoning. The first reference to long pepper comes from ancient Indian textbooks of Ayurveda, where its medicinal & dietary uses are described in detail.
Long pepper is reached Greece in the sixth or fifth century B.C.E, though Hippocrates discussed it as a medicament rather than a spice.
Long pepper is known to contain the chemical compound piper longumine, which has shown activity against many cancers including breast,prostate, lung, lymphoma,colon, leukemia, primary brain tumors and gastric cancer.
